With a father and a brother who both made their mark in the NFL, the course of my life was pretty much set early on. From the time I was a child, all I wanted was to follow in their footsteps.
In 1983, I was drafted by the Houston Oilers, just as the script called for. However, the peace that I thought would come from such an achievement wasn’t there. I had everything—money, success, and a beautiful wife—but I still felt empty.
The solution to my dilemma came in the form of some teammates whose lives had been changed dramatically by Jesus. Their example inspired me to become a Christian as well.
I played nineteen years in the NFL without missing a single game due to injury. While this success has been an incredible gift, all that really
matters is knowing Jesus. Everything else is secondary at best.
